How You Can Stay Fit on Holiday

on

If you are in any way like us, then once you’ve booked your holidays, you start to count down the days until your departure. You look forward to your trip away for months, anxiously awaiting the week or two without deadlines, without getting up early, and without chores. Freedom and bliss, even if only for a short while!

Just imagine lazing on a lounger by the pool, or devouring books as the sea gently laps at your feet. Or maybe you prefer to explore your surroundings, seeing the sights and discovering the lesser-known attractions in the area.

Also, a holiday is often a time of indulgence, meaning you’ll be much more likely to eat rich foods, delight in dessert, and wash it all down with a few glasses of wine or a cocktail or two. Sadly, as great as this can be, it will quickly add on the pounds, increasing your waistline by a couple inches seemingly overnight.

You can, however, stay fit while on holiday, whilst still managing to enjoy yourself – here’s how.

Go for a Walk

If you’re going on a walking holiday, then you probably don’t have to worry about how much exercise you’re getting on foot, but this does apply to everyone else. Maybe you’re staying in a resort just outside the town centre or the shops. If this is the case, eschew public transport and taxis, and simply walk there and back.

This way, not only will you be getting a bit of exercise in, but you’ll also be able to get much more familiar with the area – a win-win situation.

Take to the Water

Swimming is a great form of cardiovascular exercise. If your hotel has a pool like many of the ones offered by Electric Bloom, you should try to get a quick couple laps in before breakfast – it’s the perfect way to start the day off feeling energised.

If you don’t have a pool, ask at reception. There may be an arrangement with a nearby hotel which will allow you to use theirs. Even if there isn’t, that doesn’t mean you can’t get your swim on – why not take a dip in the sea?

Also, if you’re a fan of surfing, that’s another great form of exercise!

Gym It Up

Most hotels will have some form of gym or fitness suite. If you’re in luck, maybe dedicate thirty minutes each day to a bit of treadmill or rowing action, followed by a soak in the shower. It’s a small amount of time to lose, so you’re not going to miss out on any of the sights.

Eat Well

Now, we’re not going to go and spoil your holiday fun by telling you to start counting calories while you’re away. No way. Instead, simply try not to overindulge.

Instead of hitting the pasta and the pulled pork every night, why not go out on a limb and try the fish, or instead opt for a big, locally-sourced salad? This way you’ll be able to experience more of the area’s foods while still enjoying yourself!
