South Goa is home to some of the most charming and romantic beaches that the world has to offer, there is just something for everyone, places of accommodation are readily available and range from makeshift huts to world class luxurious resorts. The beaches are just as beautiful as those of the north and will provide you a life time experience as a visitor. Party and hangouts lovers might feel out of place as most beaches of the south break from the hassles of the city, here it quite quit and you can relieve your tension and stress as you enjoy being in the Indian waters. Here are some five great beaches of the South Goa
Benaulim
Benaulim beach is located approximately five miles from Marago and twenty five miles from Panaji. The beach, despite being a stone throw away from Colva beach enjoys a different world all together. You will enjoy dolphin sightseeing trips, laid back stretches and water sporting activities. The beach is at times crowded especially during the peak seasons which are in December but you can head further south to some quieter places. Benaulim is well known for its fishing activities so you will get fresh affordable fish from the nearby restaurants that are well kempt.(image by accommodationingoa).
Palolem
Located in South Goa, the beach is 27 miles from Marago and 47 miles from Panaji. The semi circle well shaped beach is well known for its soft sands and towering palm trees which make it a picturesque beach. Unlike benaulim the beach is busier and more crowds are flocking it every passing season. This however should not worry you as there are still a good number of affordable hotel ranging from luxurious to coco huts and more are still coming up every year. You can consider heading to its southern edge if you are after a rich and tasteful nightlife, bars are also common. You can get to this beach by train but the closest stations are in Canacona and Marago towns.
Patnem
Patnem beach is barely 28 miles and 48 miles from Marago and Panaji respectively. The beach is in South Goa and is relatively peaceful in terms of noise compared to Palolem which is just some ten minutes drive away. The beach is nestled between some two cliffs which give it a picturesque natural setting. Nightlife is uncommon but you can get it from the nearby Palolem beach. Accommodation facilities are also readily available and range from luxurious resorts to some incredible huts that feature a private bathroom among other amenities.(image by Rosario Lizana).
Varca, Cavelossim and Morbor
Commonly known as the territory of Goa’s most luxury resorts, the Varca, Cavelossim and Morbor beaches are a great place to visit, you will enjoy the sand white beaches , water sports among other activities. They also serve as good fishing grounds. Nightlife is common almost in all resorts and most resorts feature cultural performances, live music and casinos among others. There also a number of low key bars near Caevelossim. The Varca, Cavelossim and Morbor beaches are located just 5 miles from Marago and approximately 25 miles from Panaji
South Goa is a must visit if you are after some nice beaches that you can relax with your sweetheart or better still as a family. Most if the places are quiet and serene. Affordable accommodation another factor you ought to consider. The next time you come visiting India, ensure you go to these places.
